The BC Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) Action Plan was released on March 30, 2022, and provincially guides implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Section 4 of the DRIPA requires the Province to develop and implement an action plan to meet the objectives of the UN Declaration, and to do so in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous Peoples. The DRIPA Action Plan form the long-term vision to achieve the objectives of the UN Declaration over time.
It includes 89 priority actions to be advanced over five years, in four main goals of: Self-Determination and Inherent Right of Self-Government; Title and Rights of Indigenous Peoples; Ending Indigenous-specific Racism and Discrimination; and, Social, Cultural and Economic Well-Being. The Government of British Columbia will share annual progress reports of the action plan, which are publicly available by June 30 of each year.
