The Tsimshian First Nations are in varying stages of treaty negotiations.
- Kitselas and Kitsumkalum negotiate together and both have finalized the negotiations of their respective treaties;
- Metlakatla is in Stage 5 negotiations;
- Gitga'at is in Stage 4 Agreement in Principle negotiations,
- and Kitasoo/Xaixais is in Tripartite Reconciliation negotiations.
On April 11, 2025, Kitselas held its vote on the Kitselas Treaty: A Living Agreement (Kitselas Treaty) and the Kitselas Constitution were ratified by the Kitselas First Nation . Over 96 per cent of Kitselas citizens participated in the ratification vote, with over 85 per cent voting in favour of the treaty and over 81 per cent in favour of the constitution.
On November 1, Kitsumkalum held its vote on the Kitsumkalum Treaty: A Living Agreement, there was over 89 per cent voter participation, with approximately 90.7 per cent voting in favour of the treaty and approximately 89.7 per cent voting in favour of the constitution.

Tsimshian traditional territory spans the northwest coast, including the Prince Rupert and Terrace areas. There are approximately 3,910 members total from the five Tsimshian First Nations.
The Tsimshian First Nations have overlapping and/or shared territories with their First Nation neighbours: Gitxsan, Haida, Heiltsuk, Lax Kw’alaams, Gitxaała, Nisga’a, and Wet’suwet’en.
